Over 10-Million LG Cookie Phones Consumed Worldwide

Seoul (Korea Newswire) December 08, 2009 11:00 AM -- LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, announced today that the massively popular LG Cookie (LG KP500) touchphone has shipped more than 10-million units since its launch in November 2008. The Cookie is LG¡¯s fifth phone to achieve this impressive milestone following the LG Chocolate, LG Shine, LG KP100 and LG KG270. The Cookie reached the mark in a mere 13 months, making it the fastest-selling full touchphone in LG¡¯s history.

¡°We are pleased that the LG Cookie was able to reach the benchmark of 10-million shipments in a short period of time,¡± said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. ¡°The sales record adds credence to our philosophy of studying consumer demands and offering a full touchphone that balances premium features with sleek design. LG will continue to shape the future by delivering products and technologies to satisfy the tastes and expectations of our consumers.¡±

The LG Cookie has been popular across a broad group of consumers since its debut, selling over five million units in Europe, two million in Latin America and two million in Asia. The phone has sold at a rate of over one million units every month this year and LG is expecting demand to increase approaching the holidays.

The Cookie¡¯s slim and stylish exterior with a broad range of color options offers consumers choices to suit personal tastes. The affordable Cookie packs a range of features usually found only in premium-priced full touchphones including an intuitive and easy-to-use user interface, support for widgets, shortcut keys and a 3.0 megapixel camera.

One of the secrets behind the Cookie¡¯s global success is regional customization. For example, the version in the Middle East includes the Koran and a compass to indicate the direction of Mecca. In the Czech Republic, where ice hockey is a national sport, a special edition LG Cookie was released with an ice-hockey game and the logo of Sparta Prague, a popular club.

LG is expecting the Cookie to continue to record steady sales like the LG Chocolate and LG Shine phones. Based on the huge success of the LG Cookie, the company plans to roll out a successor with updated features in early 2010.
